Project Info
In augmented reality, two-dimensional type leaves the screen and becomes a spatial experience. This introduces new challenges for typography and readability, as the appearance of text changes depending on viewing angle, distance, and lighting conditions.
Adaptive Type explores how the technology of Variable Fonts can transform the use of type in three-dimensional space. For this purpose, hundreds of static font instances were manually generated and displayed sequentially in the app to compensate for distortions and extend readability over a longer period of time.
The AR app illustrates the potential of variable fonts in augmented reality. By interacting with viewing angle, distance, and ambient light, users can explore how type adapts to different
